About
I build internal platforms that engineers actually adopt — reproducible dev environments, frontend delivery tooling, AI-ready repositories — and measure them honestly. Mechanical engineer by training, software engineer by practice since 2017; currently tech lead of Team Hotel, the developer-experience platform team at Culture Amp in Melbourne.
Before software I spent five years as a mechanical engineer in aggregates and quarrying, refurbishing a sand dredge and automating production reporting — which is how I discovered that what I actually liked about engineering was the software. Nine months of travel and festival build crews in between.
Off the clock: parent to a small child, which is currently the hardest and best engineering-adjacent role I hold.
Selected work
- Hotel — internal developer platform CLI
- Built and operated as a product: releases, office hours, telemetry from day one. Laptop setup behind a corporate proxy, self-service diagnostics, plugin architecture. Cut new-joiner time-to-tenth-PR from ~90 days to ~30.
- Reproducible dev environments initiative
- Led end-to-end across the product group: research, RFCs, benchmarks, an engineering standard, a data-led rollout. 95 repos — ~80% of active work — moved to Nix/DevBox project-scoped environments.
- Self-hosted serverless Next.js platform
- Maintained the community serverless adapter fork, CDK deploy stacks, and a repo template that took a new front end from scaffold to production in a day. Led a zero-downtime production migration.
- Company MCP server
- AI tooling with company context — internal packages, standards, tech radar, analytics — iterated against usage telemetry. Weekly active users grew ~10× in its first year.
